SandiAngels
"SandiAngels" is a memorial to my daughter, Sandi Hynes. Sandi passed away January 2001 in an automobile accident at the age of 23. Among many other things, Sandi was an outstanding soccer player, & so the "Sandi Hynes Memorial Scholarship Fund" was established at Delsea High School, Franklinville, NJ, from where she was a graduate. This scholarship is given each year to a senior girl soccer player continuing her education. The first year a $500 scholarship was given in Sandi's name.
In an effort to continue this memorial for years to come, a fund-raiser was established in November - Sandi's birth month - to raise funds for the scholarship and . . . to celebrate Sandi's life. The first two annual events were very sucessful and the scholarship was increased to $1000. We plan to continue this annual event so that the scholarship can be increased, or made available to additional individuals each year, or both.
In a continuing desire to do other things beneficial, & out of my love of crocheting & Sandi's love of children, the "SandiAngels Charity" was created. This is dedicated to help meet the needs of babies & their families. Hand made baby items are donated to local South Jersey Hospitals, for all babies in need, but more specifically, burial outfits. These outfits range in sizes from the smallest preemie to full-term babies. Too often, these items are not available. We provide burial sets & keepsakes to the families in the hope that they receive some comfort in knowing that others care.
We also donate baby blankets & other items to "Mother & Child" shelters. These shelters provide homes, education, & life skills needed to assist mothers in providing for their children. We also donate adult-size blankets for the mothers, along with scarves & hats.
